Tata Motors August global sales up 3% at 87,459 units

Tata Motors said its global sales stood at 87,459 units in August, up 3% compared to the same month a year ago, Press Trust of India reported.

The sales of luxury brands from Jaguar Land Rover rose 31% at 21,242 vehicles in August 2011, the automobile maker said.

The sales of luxury sedans of Jaguar brand had dropped by 10% last month to 3,409 units and Land Rover sales grew by 43% at 17,833 units, Tata Motors stated.

Besides, the total passenger vehicle sales stood at 18,194 units in August 2011, down 35% from the corresponding period last year.

The commercial vehicles sales were up by 17% to 48,023 units from the same month last year, it said. Its global sales comprise Tata , Tata Daewoo and Hispano Carrocera range of commercial vehicles, Tata passenger vehicles, along with the distributed brands in India Jaguar and Land Rover.

Cumulative sales for the fiscal are 212, 599 units, lower by 9%. Cumulative sales of Jaguar Land Rover for the fiscal were 10% higher at 102, 451 units. Tata Motors Ltd is India’s largest automobile company with consolidated revenues of Rs 1,23,133 crores (USD27 billion) in 2010-11.

The company is a leader in commercial vehicles in each segment and among the top three in passenger vehicles. It is the fourth largest truck manufacturer and the world’s third largest bus manufacturer.
