Lupin expects 80% jump in its revenues from Japan in next 2 yrs

Drug maker Lupin aims to become one of the top five generic pharmaceutical companies in Japan in the next three years

Lupin is expecting a rise of over 80% in its revenues to USD 300 million from the Japanese market in the next two years, the news reports stated.

The pharmaceutical company which is present in Japan through its subsidiary Kyowa Pharmaceutical has also strengthened its presence with the buyout of from Pharmaceuticals for an unknown amount.

"Besides US and India, Japan is a priority market for Lupin, and between the two companies in Japan, Lupin looks to report revenues of about USD 300 million over the next two years from the present about USD 165 million," said Lupin President (Finance& Planning) and CFO S Ramesh.

In November, Kyowa had signed a deal with an integrated healthcare provider  I'rom Holdings Co Ltd to buy 100% outstanding shares of its subsidiary Irom Pharmaceuticals.

Kyowa was bough by Lupin  in 2007.  The drug maker has been strong in the oral segment in Japan and with the new acquisition it will get access to the injectable space.

Lupin aims to become one of the top five generic pharmaceutical companies in Japan in the next three years and currently it is the ninth largest generic player in the market in Japan. Besides Japan, the company is foraying in other markets including Latin America and Europe, the news reports said.
