Hyundai Motor Co’s US auto sales surged 23% in October, as the South Korean manufacturer reported double-digit sales gains on a percentage basis for the Santa Fe, Tucson and Elantra, Market Watch website reported.

The company said it sold 52,402 vehicles in October which is higher than a year earlier which stood at 42,656 and 351 units above September’s total.

Meanwhile, sales of the Santa Fe surged 44%, while Tucson sales rose 24%. Elantra sales rose 37%. Last week, the automaker reported a 21% jump in third-quarter net profit as strong overseas sales overshadowed the impact of a weaker won and the European debt crisis.

The automaker’s year-to-date sales broke its full-year sales record set last year. Hyundai has capitalized on a lineup of vehicles that are fuel-efficient and relatively reasonably priced compared with models offered by other car makers.

The automobile maker has seen its market share jump as it draws more customers from Japan’s top auto companies, which have suffered from production issues due March earthquake in Japan.

The sales in October were expected to increase 8.8% from the year-earlier month. The company is a Korean automaker based in Seoul, South Korea. Hyundai is the world’s fastest growing automaker for 2 years running as of 2011.
