Google Inc Friday said it has appointed former VMware Inc Chief Executive Officer Diane Greene to its board, the news reports said.
Diane Greene is a co-founder of data-center software maker VMware and will serve on the audit committee, the internet-search company Google said.
Greene is also part of the board of finance-software maker Intuit Inc, the reports said. Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman said, “Diane is a special person who combines sharp business acumen with a brilliant technical mind.” He also added, “We know she will be a great contributor and we are grateful to have her insight.”
VMware suspended Greene as CEO in July 2008 on the day it announced that sales will fall short of its predictions and thus appointed Paul Maritz who replaced Diane Greene then.
The internet search giant aims to sell more business services as a part of its effort to expand beyond search engine advertising.
56-year old Greene co-founded VMware in 1998 and sold it to storage-computer maker EMC Corp in 2004. VMware was separated from EMC in 2007 in an initial public offering.
Google Inc is an American multinational Internet and software company engaged in offering services such as Internet search, cloud computing and advertising technologies. The company was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
