BMW has launched its 20,000th car from its manufacturing facility situated at Sriperumbudur, the news reports said.
The company’s Managing Director Juergen Eder formally launched the 20,000th car from the assembly line, a year after the plant manufactured its 10,000th vehicle, the company’s new release said.
The German luxury car manufacturer began its India operations in March 2007 by setting up a production plant at Sriperumbudur with an initial investment of Rs 110 crore.
In November 2010, the global automaker rolled out its 10,000th unit from the plant which produces BMW 3 Series and 5 Series sedans in petrol and diesel variants.
The plant produces 5,400 units per year and employs about 400 people. Apart from this facility, the automobile maker has a spare parts warehouse unit in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, BMW has 24 production facilities in 13 countries and has a global sales network in 140 countries. The German car manufacturer employees over 96,000 people, the company said.
BMW is a German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing company started in 1917. The company owns and produces the Mini Marque and is the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
