Porsche AG will hike production of the Cayenne sport utility in 2012 after raising deliveries of the sports-car maker’s best selling model spurred a 37% sales gain in the first half, Economic Times news reported.
Bernhard Maier, Director of Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG see this development as a clear signal: “With these very good results in May, we have now achieved the best monthly results for new orders and deliveries for the twelfth consecutive time. Currently sales in all regions and of all model lines exceed our expectations. This speaks for a highly motivated global sales organization, which, with the implementation of various measures for process optimization in recent months, combined with our emotional products, is enjoying success on a broad basis.”
According to Maier, the output of sports utility vehicle will rise by 10% to 20% starting in 2012. The demand for the vehicle which starts at $48,200, caused delivery times to peak to 12 months in markets such as China.
Meanwhile, Porsche wants waiting time to be no longer than six months. Another car maker, Porsche SE which jointly owns the sports-car maker with Volkswagen AG plans to merge with the Wolfsbug, a Germany-based manufacturer.
All Porsche markets world-wide were able to achieve growth in May 2011. Particularly customers in China responded strongly. The Cayenne was the top seller in May with 5,886 vehicles, a three-fold increase.
Furthermore, the maker of the 911 aims to double sales to about 200,000 vehicles by 2018 by adding a compact SUV and increasing sales in emerging markets. Porsche will boost deliveries to more than 100,000 this year from 97,000 in 2010.
